Becky Price Kimmins of Amarillo died on January 23, 2026, at the age of 77. She was born on March 28, 1948, to Borden and Imogene Price in Canyon, Texas, where she spent her entire childhood. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1966 and matriculated at West Texas State University where she earned a B.S. in Biology as well as an M.A. in Education. At WT she met Mike Kimmins of Phillips, and the couple married in 1971.
Becky and Mike moved to Stow, Ohio, in 1973. There she began her career as a guidance counselor at a substance abuse halfway house before going on to work at an all-girls Catholic high school and, for a further three decades, in public elementary, intermediate, and high schools. Following successive moves to Lombard, Illinois; Silver Lake, Ohio; Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Denver, Colorado; and Raleigh, North Carolina, Becky and Mike made Houston their home for more than 20 years before retiring to Amarillo in 2009.
Becky relished her work which provided her the opportunity to put her patience, empathy, and work ethic in service of others. Her students ranged from kindergarteners to high school seniors, from lifelong community residents to newly arrived immigrants, from those with special needs to attendees of the early college high school she helped establish in the last years of her career. She was beloved by both students and colleagues for her deep well of kindness and understanding, as well as her determination to meet the wide-ranging needs of her students and help them achieve their ambitions. Her commitment to service found another outlet in her roles as wife and mother. As Mike’s career with Phillips Petroleum necessitated move after move, Becky would time and again seek out a new vocational challenge and take on the additional task of making a new home for her family. When she wasn’t engaged in service to others, Becky could be found gardening, shopping for antiques, and spending time in the company of a series of beloved Miniature Schnauzers and, in later years, rescue mutts. Friends and family will remember her for her warmth and generosity.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her son, Michael of Amarillo, brother Davis Price and wife Janet of Lubbock, sister Patty Price of Amarillo, sister JoBeth Nepper and husband Terry of Amarillo, as well as eighteen cousins, three nephews, two nieces, and numerous friends.
There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate Becky’s life on Wednesday, February 11, at 3:00 p.m., at Brooks Funeral Directors in Canyon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Borden and Jean Price Scholarship at WTAMU. For more information, contact the Office of Scholarship Services at 806-651-3330.
