B. Browning

June 29, 1964 — April 20, 2015

A memorial service honoring her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in West Texas A&M University Legacy Hall with Father Robert Busch officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brooks Funeral Directors in Canyon. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Leigh Browning was born June 29, 1964, in Sweetwater, TX to Winnie Brock and Jerry Browning. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas A&M University, a Master of Arts degree from Kansas State University, and her doctorate at the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a long time member and avid supporter of Delta Zeta. She was a member of the WTAMU faculty since 1991, most recently serving with the College of Business as a Professor of Business Communication and Marketing after a distinguished career of service and accomplishment in the broadcasting department. She has been recognized for her work both locally and with prestigious international distinction. She was an icon in the broadcasting and news media industry, impacting countless faculty and students with her boldness, charisma and beautiful spirit. In addition to her remarkable career, Leigh was heavily involved in her community. She served for nearly 20 years on the board for the Panhandle AIDS Support Organization (PASO) along with various other nonprofit boards and committees. She was preceded in death by her father and her friend Guy Paul Yates. Survivors include her mother, Winnie Brock, step father Garland Brock, her brother Brett Browning, and nephew Brody Browning of Tucson, Arizona, step mother Martha Browning of Lubbock, step sisters, Christy and Kasie, of Lubbock, and Steffanie and Michelle, cousins Danny Lincoln and wife Angi of Houston, Texas, Christie and Allen Wynn of Round Rock, best friend, Sara Northrup, and hundreds of students she taught, inspired, and touched throughout the years. One of the many "DLB" proverbs she was known for was: "Find your passion". Thanks to her, thousands of students did just that, and thousands more will continue to do so because that's what they were taught. Leigh's legacy is her students and in them she will continue to push, raise the bar, and live beyond the perimeters of expectations. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Leigh Browning Scholarship Fund at WTAMU Foundation, WTAMU Box 60766, Canyon, Texas 79016.
