Ava Book, 73, of Canyon, went to be with her Lord on October 25, 2023. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Brooks Chapel with Gene Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Brooks Chapel.

Ava was born in Amarillo on December 9, 1949 to Nolan and Lorene Judy of Panhandle. Ava attended school in Panhandle and still has many treasured lifelong friendships from there. During her high school years, she was in band, a baton twirler, cheerleader, and played basketball for the Panhandle Panthers. Ava was also Miss Carson County and Miss Grain Sorghum.

Ava was an accomplished pianist and organ player. She played the piano and organ for the First Christian Church in Panhandle and Canyon. She also set the mood by playing piano for Furr's Cafeteria in Wolflin Village and other restaurants. She was a member of Sweet Adeline's and loved singing.

Ava attended West Texas State University and graduated with degrees in Education and Music. She went on to teach at Humphrey Highland in Amarillo for 33 years and made many long-lasting friendships.

Ava was a farm girl and loved working in the yard, but she hated weeds. She especially loved spending time with Dennis and her friends on the golf course. Ava was married to Buddy Wilkins and out of that union came the joy of her life, son, Charles. She married her sweetheart Dennis Book on December 18, 1988.

Ava was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, her parents Nolan and Lorene Judy, sister, Bobbie Wilhite, and nieces, Alisha Wilhite and Debbie McKnight.

Survivors include her son, Charles Anthony Wilkins of Canyon; brother-in-law, Roy Wilhite of Amarillo; niece, Janet Abbott and husband, Randy, of Canyon; nephews, Johnny Wilhite and wife, Lana of Mansfield, Jerry Wilhite and wife, Annie of Kasilof, Alaska, and Ricky McKnight of Lamesa; three grandchildren, Mya, Acesa, and Levi; several great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Dwight Eddleman, Michael Eddleman, China Eddleman, Karla Hale and Tima Schuster.
