Services will be 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Clark Williams, pastor of First United Methodist in Canyon, officiating. Burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at Brooks Chapel. Anna Kathryn Overton Read, 88, died February 12, 2006 in Canyon. Mrs. Read was born July 3, 1917 in McLean Texas to Carl and Tomie Overton. She was raised in the Panhandle area and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State Teachers College in 1940. She began her lifelong love of teaching in Dumas and Claude Texas during WWII. She taught in Waco were she met Albert V. Read, a steel construction foreman. They married in Rockwall Texas in April 1949. They lived throughout the United States and settled in Dallas Texas where she and a fellow teacher started " The Little Red Schoolhouse" in Lancaster Texas for kindergarten through 6th grade children. The family moved to Canyon in 1962. She was a librarian and taught third grade at Rex Reeves Elementary where she touched many lives until her retirement in 1982. Mrs. Read was preceded in death by her husband in 2002. Survivors include, her son; Lee Read and wife, Barbara; daughter, Margie and husband, Chapy Chapman, three grandchildren; Lisa Boehning and her husband, Shawn Jeremy Read and his wife Amber Nicole and Robin Bauerle; and five great grandchildren; Maecie and Brodie Boehning, Braden and Avery Read, and Cidney Bauerle.
