Alton Wyatt Carpenter went to be with Jesus on December 28, 2013. Wyatt was born October 5, 1950 in York, South Carolina to Milton and Madge Carpenter. He was married to Dayna Covington on June 16, 1979 in Shamrock, TX. He was a 'Fightin' Texas Aggie' class of '72, graduating with a Masters of Science in Animal Science. Wyatt owned and operated Great Plains Semen Service in Shamrock before being called into the ministry. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with his Master of Divinity and faithfully served the Lord and pastored for over thirty years. He served in churches in Oklahoma Lane, TX, Texico, NM, Borger, TX, and Liberal, KS. He retired to Canyon in early December, 2013. Wyatt was a devoted family man, a faithful and loving husband, proud father and beloved Papa, and treasured father-in-law. Wyatt had a love for people and never met a stranger. He loved the mountains and outdoors and was a cowboy at heart. Most importantly, he was a contender for the faith and faithfully preached the Word. He was preceded in death by his father, Milton Carpenter. Survivors include his wife, Dayna Carpenter, of the home; daughter, Ashli Carpenter, of Amarillo; five sons, Justin Carpenter and wife, Jessica, of Canyon, Coby Carpenter and wife, Kelli, of Ft. Gibson, OK, Chalen Carpenter and wife, Melissa, of Canyon, Kade Carpenter and fiance, Ellie, both of Canyon, and foreign exchange son, Deniz Gokpinar, of Istanbul, Turkey; two grandchildren, Kalen and Skye Carpenter; sister, Carolyn Childers and husband, Wayne, of Gaffney, SC; his mother, Madge Carpenter, of Gaffney, SC; one niece and five nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to Nhomlaau International, a ministry to South Sudan, at www.nhomlaau.org or 1714 North May Street, Guymon, OK 73942.
