Allen Downing

August 20, 1936 — March 16, 2015

Graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 21 at Dreamland Cemetery with Darrell Wait, pastor of First Christian Church of Dumas, officiating and with Military Honors by Volleys for Veterans. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 21 from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Allen was born August 20, 1936 in Canyon to Neil and Betty Downing. He was raised on the family farm and dairy. He attended schools in the Wildorado community and Canyon. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. Allen spent many years farming in Randall County. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his Uncle Bill Downing. For years he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canyon, and, then upon moving to Big Springs, was a member of First United Methodist there. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his son, Jeff Downing and wife, Shelly, of Dumas; two daughters, Debra Capps and husband, Brice, of Spur, Betty Jo Ross and husband, John, of Meade, KS; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and five siblings, Mike Downing, Patricia Locke, Elaine Winters, Nancy Stone, and Linda Janzen.
