Monika Kuhlman McGibboney

March 14, 1954 ~ February 24, 2018 (age 63)

Monika Kuhlman McGibboney, 63, of Canyon, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018.  Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at the Hillside Christian Church West Campus Chapel in Amarillo with Mike Kuhlman and Bob Schroeder officiating.  Private burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel.

Monika was born in Canyon on March 14, 1954 to Alvin and Liselotte Kuhlman.  She graduated from West Texas State University with a Bachelor of Education and taught in Canadian for six years and in Canyon for twenty-two years.  She was a member of Texas State Teachers Association and once received Teacher of the Year.  She was raised a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and also became a member of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and Hillside Christian Church.  She married Greg McGibboney on September 26, 1992 in Amarillo. 

Monika loved to read and write and also enjoyed gardening, spending countless hours at Pete’s Greenhouse.  She loved to travel, and taking her grandchildren to Disneyland was a favorite.  She and her friend, Lisa Foreman formed Mona Lisa Catering for several years.  Monika also loved collecting aluminum cans for the restoration of the Statue of Liberty in 1984.

Monika was an immaculate person in every way.  She fought the good fight against cancer for twenty-five years, receiving the best of care in the Amarillo area.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Kuhlman.

Survivors include her husband, Greg McGibboney, of Canyon; her parents, Alvin and Liselotte Kuhlman, of Canyon; two daughters, Vanessa Thornton, of Amarillo and Stefani Elliott, of Uvalde; stepdaughter, Kasi Miller, of Austin; stepson, Cade McGibboney, of Austin; brother, Marty Kuhlman, of Canyon; and seven grandchildren, Hannah, Becca, Jackson, Grant, Mason, Brennan, and Nathan.

The family suggests memorials be to the Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX  79106 or The Education Foundation of Canyon ISD, 3301 N. 23rd St., Canyon, TX 79015.
