Mary Ann was born March 30, 1933, near Kranzburg, South Dakota to Joseph and Cecelia (Haan) Fischer. She attended Goodwin High School where she met the man she would eventually marry, Robert. In one of the youngest marriages in South Dakota history, she married Robert on June 30, 1948, in the Holy Rosary Catholic  Church in Kranzburg. It was a marriage that would endure for nearly 71 years.

Mary Ann worked  for different supermarkets, including Safeway for nearly 20 years before she retired in 1984. She and Robert spent many years traveling across America in different motor homes and campers. She especially loved gardening, and time with her dog, Corky, in their small ranchette nestled in the mountains of southern Oregon. She also loved to cook with her signature dishes being rhubarb crisp and poppy strudel.  In December 2014, the couple moved to Canyon, TX, to live closer to their eldest daughter, Patricia, and her family. After living in South Dakota, California, and Oregon, her final resting place would be in Canyon, TX.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church  in Canyon, the church of which was just a few blocks from her Conner Drive home.

Survivors include her husband Robert; son Dominic,  Washougal, WA; daughter Marci (and Todd) Fogel, Evergreen, CO; four grandchildren (Brandy Lyles, Andrea Sholder, Joel and Jason Sherman); and three great grandchildren; siblings Sister Marion (Order of St. Benedict), Barbara, Tony, and Donald. Also, many nephews, nieces and friends. Preceding her in death was her daughter Patricia Zirbes; a son (William), and a daughter (Stella), both of whom died in infancy;  sister Theresa Brady; and brother Ralph Fischer.

Donations may be sent to Alzheimer’s Association at www.ALZ.org or at their address at the National Processing Center, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C., 20090 or to St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Canyon, TX.
