Dorothy was born November 17, 1933 in Clarkesville, Texas to Felton and Faye Thompson. She graduated from Plainview High School. Dorothy married the love of her life, Joe Hawkins, in December of 1951.

She was a Realtor-Broker and in December of 1993, she earned her bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences from WTA&M University.

Dorothy loved introducing her grandkids to the world of art. They had many fond memories discovering the world of art together.

Her love for sports started in her younger years with volleyball and basketball and continued in her family life with boating, waterskiing and snow skiing.

Some of her fondest memories included her time spent at the Brewer Family reunions, family vacations and family Christmases with her husband, kids and grandkids. They enjoyed camping at Palo Duro Canyon in their motorhome. One of her most cherished memories was driving the motorhome around Amarillo to view Christmas lights. Everyone joined in singing carols while the small grandkids expressed their enthusiasm, saying “pretty” over and over.

She was preceded in death by her father, Felton, her mother and step-father, Faye and EL Plank, and a niece Darci Rae Heiskell.

She was survived by her husband of 67 years, “Joe Hawk”; children, Kay Ellis and fiancé Jerry Meador, Kelly Griffin and husband Paul, and Chad Hawkins and wife Beverly; grandchildren, Jason and wife Wendy, Tori and husband Santiago, Kira and husband Clay, Breanna and husband Randy, Brittney and husband Dylan, Paige and Seth; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Ben Thompson and wife Pat; sister, Karen Feagley; niece, Stephanie Sweatt and husband David; as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family suggests memorials be made to Interim Hospice, 3501 S Soncy Rd #134, Amarillo, TX 79119 or to Five Points Nursing and Rehabilitation, 1625 Point W Pkwy, Amarillo, TX 79124.
