Obituary for WILMOT ALTON PAUL

A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday, July 26 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at 415 Lair Lane in Canyon. Mr. Paul was born in Fallon, NV on the family farm; during junior high the family moved to Texas, farming in Deaf Smith County, and also soon occupying a home in Canyon. Mr. Paul graduated from Canyon High School, and attended WTSTC, receiving his BA degree in Speech. With the college flying club, he received private pilot instruction learning to fly in a Piper Cub from the grass training field just north of the city; aviation and airplanes became a lifelong interest. Enlisting in the Army Air Corps early in WWII took him to St. Louis for radio school; there he met his wife, Dee Dee, who was at the time, his training instructor. Serving in the Pacific theater, he was radar officer for the Black Widow night fighter squadron on Okinawa. Returning to Amarillo after the war, Bill and Dee Dee worked together in their residential construction business for forty years, and raised two sons. Later, in 1978, they returned to Canyon and built a home, occupied since. They enjoyed traveling abroad, and made surprisingly long scenic driving trips to locales in the states, Canada, and Alaska. Eventually finding a favorite spot, they visited often in Lake Isabel, CO; trout are even still there, having eluded Bill"s goal to catch all of them. Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife, Dee Dee. Survivors include his two sons, David Paul, of Amarillo; Kenneth Paul, of Las Cruces, NM; and his younger brother, Tom L. Paul, of Fort Worth.
