Obituary for WILMA JEAN WALKER

Wilma Jean Walker, 92, of Canyon, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Amarillo. Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, February 4 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. Rusty Dickerson, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Levelland, officiating. Private interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Wilma Jean was born November 14, 1924 in Silverton to William and Nell Thompson Dickerson. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1942. On December 9, 1945, she married William D. Walker in Canyon. During WWII, Wilma worked for Western Union in New York City. She also spent a few years working as a secretary for the West Texas State University music department. She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon. Wilma loved reading, embroidery, crocheting and sewing. She was a loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Sue Nell Rogers and Fay Dell Bosley; a brother, Joe Dickerson; and a grandson, Shawn Walker. Survivors include her husband of 71 years, William D. Walker; two daughters, Judy Rae Ward of Hunt, Pat Foard and husband Don of Levelland; a son, Dub Walker and wife Shelly of Odessa; six grandchildren, Jean Foard, Lisa Foard, Julie Antley and husband Bronson, Bryan Bowers, Andrew Walker, and Sarah Jayne Walker; great grandson, Brighton Antley; two brothers, Merle Dickerson and wife Ginny and Leroy Dickerson; and several nieces and nephews. The family suggests memorials be made to your favorite charity.
