Obituary for WILLIE MAC WEAVER

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at First United Methodist Church of Canyon, with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Dreamland Cemetery. Willie Mac Weaver was born June 12, 1935 in Amarillo, Texas to Daniel Ralph and Annie Laura Weaver. He married Sharon Agnes Moore at St. George"s Episcopal Church in Canyon, Texas on November 20, 1974. Sharon Weaver preceded him in death on December 11, 2002. Mr. Weaver worked in the family business while he attended West Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelors of Business Administration Degree in 1957 and a Master"s Degree in Business Administration in 1962. He moved to Denver, Colorado and helped start a Hallmark Card Shop in Cherry Creek Shopping Center, where he worked for two years. In 1964 he returned to West Texas A&M University to work on his all-levels teaching certificate and started teaching school in 1966 at Hereford, Texas. In 1969 he went to work for the Department of Defense and taught American Military dependent children in elementary school at Naha Middle School in Naha, Okinawa. In 1971 he transferred to Europe and taught at an American Military Communication base in Wunstorf, Germany. After traveling the world and a photo Safari trip to Africa in 1973, Willie met and married his wife, Sharon, in 1974. He taught Management and Business courses at Amarillo College for 27 years, and served as Chairman of the Management Department from 1980-1985. He was a member of the Texas Community College Teachers Association and the Texas Community College Management Educators Association. While at Amarillo College he earned The Master Teacher, National Institute of Staff and Organization Development (NISOD) award from the University of Texas. He was nominated for the Minnie Piper Stevens award for teaching excellence twice, as well as having received Professor Emeritus on March 22, 2011. Mr. Weaver was known for his passion of teaching, his interpersonal relationships with students and faculty and his professional integrity in the educational community. Willie was true to his craft, himself and all of those around him. Survivors include a daughter, Allison Weaver McDaniel and husband, Will, of Dallas, Texas; granddaughters, Ashley Sharon McDaniel and Lila Grace McDaniel, of Dallas; son, Scott Russell Weaver, of Canyon; and sister, Vicki Ann Funk, and husband, Terry, of Canyon, Texas.
