Obituary for WILLIAM 'BILL' TIREY

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon with Rev. Rick Enns, pastor, and Roman Asbill, officiating. William Frank 'Wild Bill' Tirey was born on December 13, 1941 to Frank and Gracie Tirey in Tulia, Texas. He grew up in Happy where he was a 4 year letterman in football and advanced to the state UIL academic competition in number sense and slide rule. He graduated from Happy High School in 1960 and went on to attend West Texas State University where he earned his BBA in accounting and finance in 1971. Bill proudly served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years with the Canyon Volunteer Fire Department. He was an active member of the Canyon Lions and Rotary clubs. Bill owned his own accounting and bookkeeping business on the square in Canyon. Bill enjoyed fly fishing, WT athletics, Happy Cowboy football, and telling stories. He loved life and people and had a gift for finding humor in every situation. One of his favorite pastimes was bragging about his sons and his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Gracie Tirey, and his younger brother, George Tirey. He is survived by his two sons, Jason Tirey and wife, Vanessa, of San Antonio, and Preston Tirey and wife, Sarah, of Canyon; five grandchildren, Abby and Anna Tirey of San Antonio, and Naomi Grace, Ayla Jane, and George Lee Tirey, of Canyon; two sisters and their husbands, Judy and Gene Shipman and Jeanne and Ronnie Johnson, all of Happy; one sister-in-law, Sara Tirey, of Happy; and numerous nieces and nephews as well as the mother of his children, Georgine Wells, of Shamrock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be to the First United Methodist Church, 1818 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015 or the Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 98, Canyon, TX 79015.
