Obituary for WILLIAM P. HINTON

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 1 at the First Methodist Church of Happy with Rev. Tom Stribling, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Happy Cemetery. Mr. Hinton will be available for viewing at Happy's Memorial Chapel on Sunday, May 30 from 12:00 to 6:00 P.M. and on Monday, May 31 from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Bill was born August 15, 1918 in Sylvester, Texas to John Robert and Ada Hinton. He attended school in Magdalena, New Mexico and then Dougherty and Floydada, Texas and graduated from Floydada High School in 1937. During World War II, he was a US Air Force staff sergeant in charge of a Link Trainer section. After the war he attended the University of Texas in Austin and then returned to Dougherty to help on the family farm. He and the family lived in Tulia for several years before settling in Happy in 1960 where he farmed and ranched. He was a 60 year member of the Masonic Lodge. In his later years he enjoyed traveling. He married Berenice Thompson in 1949 in St. Louis. They met at a USO dance during the war. He was preceded in death by his wife, Berenice, his parents, and one sister, Maudell. Survivors include a son, Bruce, of Happy; two daughters, Kate Hinton Burnette and husband, Jerry, of Carson City, Nevada, Karen Hinton Wassner and husband, Steve, of Carson City, Nevada; a brother, Henry, of Dougherty; and two sisters, Lois, of Dallas, and Christine, of Hale Center.
