Obituary for WAURAYNE COPE

Services will be 3:00 PM Friday, November 13 at the First Baptist Church in Happy with Rev. Travis LaDuke, Jim Fowler, and Virginia Fowler, officiating. Interment will be at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Brooks Chapel in Canyon. Waurayne Cope was born May 25, 1940 in Lincoln County, Tennessee to Charles and Olive Lorene Bozeman Walker. She married Wayne Cope July 4, 1958, in Boise City, Oklahoma. They made their home in Happy, Texas, raised three children there and moved later to Spearman, Texas. Waurayne lived in Spearman from 1976 to 2001. For many years she was a beloved teacher for the Tulia and Spearman school districts. She also taught Sunday school for many years at the First Baptist Church in both Happy and Spearman. She was a gifted writer who enjoyed sharing her talents with family and friends. Her special joys and pastimes were baking cookies, and reading to and spending time with her grandchildren. Special thanks to the Craig Methodist Alzheimer"s Unit and BSA Hospice for their loving care. Waurayne is survived by two daughters, Denise Van Meter and husband, Rex, of Bushland, Susan Hill and husband, Bob, of Fort Mill, SC; a son, Bill Cope and wife, Michelle, of Bloomington, IL; and six precious grandchildren; four sisters, Bobby Fulmer, of Lenoir, NC, Minnie Moses, of Wichita Falls, Connie Laird, of Palestine, Patsy Ziegler, of Kerrville; and three brothers, Dwain Walker, of Lubbock, J. Lee Walker, of Knoxville, TN, and Patrick Walker, of Lenoir City, TN; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family suggests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Spearman, Texas, or Samaritan"s Purse, Bible Lessons for Children, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
