Obituary for W. A. DONNELL

Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Dr. David L. Lowrie, Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery in Dumas, Texas. Mr. Donnell died on Monday, April 20, 2009 in his home at the Cottages at Quail Creek. William Abner Donnell, Jr. was born on January 28, 1920 in Douglas, Arizona to William Abner Donnell, Sr. and Evie Belle Donnell. He graduated from Channing High School and received his pharmacy degree from the Capitol College of Pharmacy and Science in Denver, Colorado in 1938. In 1940, he married Esther Dicy Roberts. The couple had two children. They lived, worked, and raised their family in three states: Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona. Mr. Donnell retired from independent pharmacy in Roswell, New Mexico in the mid 1970"s. The couple moved to Canyon, Texas in 1981 and made their final home together there, on Cemetery Road. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Esther"s death in 2001. Mr. Donnell served his country in World War II as a pharmacist in the United States Navy. He was a Mason and a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. He was also preceded in death by a son, S.D. "Dwight" Donnell; a grandson, James Dwight Troublefield; and a brother, H. D. "Dawson" Donnell. Survivors include his daughter, Jerrie Donnell Norris, of Albuquerque, NM; a daughter-in-law, Mildred Donnell Ford, of Odessa; three grandchildren, Kathryn Troublefield Hellberg and Karl Abner Donnell, both of Albuquerque, and Sheri Donnell Mudd, of Lubbock; five great grandchildren, Amelia and Chase Hellberg and Samantha and Alyssa Donnell, all of Albuquerque, and Olivia Mudd, of Lubbock; and one sister, Juanita Donnell Feltz, of Temecula, CA. The family requests that memorials be made to The Cottages at Quail Creek, 6811 Plum Creek Dr., Amarillo, TX 79124; or The First Baptist Church of Canyon, 1717 4th Avenue, Canyon, TX 79015.
