Obituary for VIRGINIA LEE RAILLARD

Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Canyon with Dr. David Lowrie, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Virginia was born February 10, 1918 in Groom, Texas, the only child of Oliver Lee Fortenberry and Jasie Juanita Weatherly. She graduated from Wellington High School. She attended Mary-Hardin Baylor, and graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in 1940. She taught in public schools in the Texarkana School District during the early 1940"s and married Raymond W. Raillard on August 6, 1942. She did graduate work in Speech and English at West Texas State University in the 1960"s and was later on the staff of Gene Howe Elementary School in Amarillo in the 1970"s . She also worked in the front of the house at the "Texas" Musical Drama from 1966 until her husband"s retirement, managing the gift shop. She made many trips to Europe in her retirement years with her husband. She was a longtime resident of Canyon where she was involved in many activities, including church choir, Boy Scouts, and the "Sweet Adelaides". She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon. She will be remembered for her kindheartedness and graciousness which she extended to everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Raillard, and her son, Miles Timothy Raillard. Survivors include two sons, Raymond Mark Raillard and wife, Joan, of Dallas, Michael Lee Raillard, of Amarillo, and many loving friends. The family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
