Obituary for VIOLA TOY HALE ABBOTT

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 2, 2008 at Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Dr. Roger Hubbard, pastor, officiating. Private interment at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo. Mrs. Abbott was born November 9, 1920 in Hansford County, Texas to Ethel and William Hale. She grew up on the family farm near Goodwell, Oklahoma, graduated from Goodwell High School, and attended Panhandle A&M College, where she met her husband John. They were married May 31, 1941. They moved to Amarillo in 1952 and to Lake Tanglewood in 1975. Mrs. Abbott was a member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. She was involved in many club activities at Lake Tanglewood, and was a volunteer at the Lake Tanglewood Library. Her hobbies were reading, painting, sewing, square dancing, and a lifelong love of music. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Aaron, Ernest, and Ralph, and three sisters, Pat Dixon, Thelma Garrett, and Jo Byerley. Survivors of Mrs. Abbott include son, John Abbott and wife, Karen, of Amarillo; daughter, Kathy Sargent, of Austin; three grandchildren, Ashley Abbott Mezger and husband, Russell, of Houston, Drew Abbott, of New York City, Elizabeth Sargent Hudgins and husband, Ty, of Austin; three brothers, William "Bud" Hale and wife, Rosalee, of Amarillo, Mose Hale and wife, Ina, of Wimberly, Ted Hale and wife, Mary, of Amarillo; two sisters, Mary Phelps and husband, Jack, of Weatherford, OK, Fern Webster and husband, Jack, of Darrouzzett; and three generations of nieces and nephews.
