Obituary for Verona Lou Collier

Verona Lou Collier, 87, of Canyon passed away on October 3, 2019.  Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 5, 2019 at Evangelical Fellowship Church in Amarillo with Pastor Bobby File officiating. Verona was born on November 17, 1931 in Tulia to Otis and Lucille Knapp Carruth. She married Henry Collier on November 22, 1953 in Pampa, Texas.  Verona worked as a phone operator for Southwestern Bell and then worked at Citizens Bank in Pampa. She was a teacher for the Amarillo Independent School District for 21 years, and after retiring from teaching, she worked at the Canyon Junior High library.  Verona was a talented artist and an amazing seamstress and tailor.  She was a member of Evangelical Fellowship Church in Amarillo where she also enjoyed helping in the library. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. Survivors include her two sons, Rodney Collier and wife, Peggy of Canyon and Mark Collier and wife, Christine of Philippines; a brother, Julian Burr Carruth and wife, Dolores of Irving; seven grandchildren, Christy Bertolino of Canyon, Blake Collier and wife, Melissa of Tulsa, Meghan Collier of Euless, Beth Mooney and husband, Colton of Canyon, Tony Collier and wife, Nic and their two children, of Maryland, Lizanne Hatfield and husband, Jon and their five children, of the Austin area, and Chris Collier  also of the Austin area; and two great-grandchildren, Eli and Everly Schmucker. The family suggests memorials be to the Alzheimer’s Association, 5410 Bell St. #411, Amarillo, TX 79109.
