Obituary for Tyler Jay Allen

Tyler Jay Allen, age 74 passed away on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 in Amarillo Texas.

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Anna Street Church of Christ, 2310 Anna Street, Amarillo, Texas 79106 with Gene Shelborne and Wendell Powers officiating. The family welcomes all friends to visit on Monday, June 14, 2021 from 6-8pm at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.

Tyler was born on February 24, 1947 in Clovis NM. He was the third child and only son of four children born to Vernon Allen and wife, Opal. Tyler grew up in Clovis, spending his young days fishing, camping and playing tricks on his sisters. In 1966, Tyler graduated from Clovis High School and continued his education at Eastern New Mexico University, pursuing an engineering degree. Tyler moved from Clovis NM to Irving TX when he took a position in the Air & Space Engineering field at General Dynamics Mission Systems. On February 8, 1969 he married Jannet Louise Turner at Cannon Air Force Base.

While in Irving, he and Jann welcomed their first daughter, Monnie born in 1973. A couple years later, Tyler pivoted his career and began his 30 year occupation as a Locomotive Engineer with Santa Fe RailRoad. This transition in profession moved the couple to Amarillo TX, where their second daughter, Dani was born in 1975. With 2 kids, a wife, a purring cat, and lots of houseplants, Tyler and Jann happily & successfully settled into the Amarillo community. It is as a Railroader or "Rail" as they so fondly call each other, Tyler acquired many of his closest friends, these men are a tight-knit pack. A genuine camaraderie is present among them, they each have numerous stories and unexpected experiences that are either nail-biting or entertaining, and sometimes both. There is also an entirely different lingo that exists between these brethren: hotshot, double-stack, on-the-law, caught a dog, and in-the-hole were terms often exchanged.

Though his profession demanded him to be away from home for days at a time, he was continually engaged with his family. He never failed to show his love by doing the simple things, like leaving heart-shaped chocolates for his daughters on Valentines Day, and never ending a phone call to his wife without saying "I love you".

Tyler is described by his friends as a most kind-hearted soul and many considered him their best friend. He is described by his grandchildren as hilarious and interested, creative and up-for-anything. Tyler was an easy companion, a most-humble man, he carried himself with a positive outlook, and a continuous smile. He saw the best in people. He saw the humor in everyday situations. He was a trusted advisor to some, a confidant to others, and by and large, a really fantastic father and Papa. He counseled, he joked, he listened and he loved and laughed often.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jann of 50 years. A loving father to two daughters, Monnie Burdett of Oceanside, CA and Dani Rembleski with husband Brady Rembleski, of Sacramento, CA. A proud grandfather to five grandchildren, Erik Burdett of Canyon, TX, Thomas Burdett and wife, Allison of Amarillo, TX; Elias, Kate and Rachel Rembleski, of Sacramento, CA. A brother to Linda Smith of Orland, CA and the late Judy Powers and Jan Hamilton. A master to Gracie, the 100 pound yellow labrador who walked faithful by his side.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Coffee Memorial Blood Center, a blood bank located in Amarillo that provided and gave Tyler the life-sustaining blood and platelets that extended the last months of his life.
