Obituary for TONY RUSK

Tony Rusk was born on February 4, 1931 in Canyon to Terry and Jessie Roberson Rusk. He attended Canyon schools, West Texas Training School, West Texas State College, and Amarillo College. He married Betty Seymour on June 10, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. Tony worked at First Supply of Amarillo. Later he went to work at Pioneer Natural Gas Company/Energas transferring to Fritch in 1963 and managing the gas office. Tony retired in 1987 after working with the company for 37 years. He was a member of the Fritch Volunteer Fire Department for 40 years. After retiring from the fire department, he served as Chaplain. Tony was also a member of the Fritch Lions Club, the Fritch Jaycees, and served three times as the president of the Chamber of Commerce. Tony was instrumental in starting the old Fritch Free Fair which evolved into Howdy Neighbor Day. He was named Citizen of the Year for Fritch. as well as Firefighter of the Year. Tony also at one time served as city Fire Marshall and Assistant Chief. Tony was the first President of the Fritch Booster Club and he also coached Babe Ruth Baseball. Tony enjoyed Bob Wills western swing music. He loved his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and family reunions. Tony and Betty have been married for 57 years and are long time members of Trinity Fellowship Church in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Terry and Ralph Rusk, two sisters, Vera Rush and Margaret Snowder, and a son, Jim Rusk. Survivors include his wife, Betty Rusk of the home; two sons, John Rusk and wife, Becki of Capetown, S. Africa, Joe Rusk and wife, Mitzi of Amarillo; a daughter, Becky Day and husband, Steve of Dalhart; ten grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
