Obituary for Thomas Glenn Hicks

Thomas Glenn Hicks, 73, of Canyon passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2019. Celebration of Life services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at First Baptist Church Canyon with Bill Patterson officiating. Graveside services will follow at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at Brooks Chapel. Thom was born on July 17, 1945 in Seminole, Oklahoma to William and Bessie Hicks. He married Susan Kay McKinney on July 12, 1974 in Canyon. Thom was an independent financial planner and insurance agent. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order at WTAMU and the president of the Cottonwood Glen Homeowners Association. He was a WTAMU Athletics Board Member and a member of First Baptist Church Canyon. Thom volunteered to coach his children’s sporting activities and loved supporting and attending his grandkid’s sporting events. Thom enjoyed anything and everything WTAMU. For 2 decades, Thom and Susan provided a home away from home for countless WT athletes, sharing meals, job opportunities, a family atmosphere and fellowship. In 2015, Thom and Susan received the Legacy Award in recognition of their commitment and support of WT athletics. Preceding him in death were his parents, and sister, Mary Sue Ezziddine. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Susan, of the home; daughters, Erin Ziegler and husband Kevin of Denham Springs, Louisiana, Hillary Hicks of Denham Springs, Louisiana and Hannah Barrow and husband Chris of Canyon; grandchildren, Kayla and Kendall Ziegler, Gunter and Claire Findley, and Caden and Brynn Barrow; numerous nieces and nephews; and brothers, Don Hicks and wife Elaine and Gary Hicks, all of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be directed to the West Texas A&M University Stewart Endowment for Athletics Scholarships in honor of Thom and his passion for the Buffs and Lady Buffs.
