Obituary for TERRY GLENN COLLINS

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Happy with Pastor Tom Stribling presiding, Rev. Belle Armstrong, and retired Father Jerry Stein assisting. Burial will be in Happy Cemetery. Mr. Collins will lie in state at Happy"s Memorial Chapel. Father of Three, Dad to Many, Terry Glenn Collins, died on Saturday, November 24, 2007 in Amarillo. Terry was born on October 16, 1948 to Stephen E. and Della R. Furrow Collins in Pendleton, Oregon. He was the seventh of nine siblings and grew up in the Anderson-Redding area of California. He graduated in 1965 in the top five percent of his class and immediately enlisted into the Air Force at the age of 17 during the summer of 1965. He did his "boot camp" at Amarillo Air Force Base. Terry served his country for 24 years and retired in the fall of 1989 at the rank of Senior Master Sgt. and moved to Happy, Texas. On May 16, 1971 he married the love of his life, Linda Augello, of Walnut Creek, California, and together they traveled and lived the military life of which they both loved. Upon retiring from the Air Force, Terry went to college and graduated as an elementary teacher in the spring of 1993, fulfilling his dream of teaching and guiding children. He was a fourth grade teacher at San Jacinto Elementary School from the fall of 1993 to December 1998. In January 1999 he began teaching for the Windham School District, a part of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, at the Nathaniel J. Neal Unit in Amarillo, Texas. Terry was the extremely proud father of three beautiful girls, Rachael, Jennifer, and Ileana, and an immensely proud grandfather (Papa) to six wonderful grandchildren. Terry was preceded in death by his father and mother; two brothers, Frank and Steven Collins, of California; and two sisters, Betty Davis, of California; and Della Sue Penn, of Happy, Texas. Survivors include his wife, Linda Collins, of Happy; daughters, Rachael D. Collins, of Happy, Jennifer L. Brookins, of Happy, and Ileana L. Jennings, of Happy; future son-in-law, Brent Choate, of Happy; grandchildren, Mariah and Liberty Jennings, Jasmin and Xavier Brookins, and Seth and Joslyn Choate; brothers, Larry L. Collins and wife, Norma, of Oakdale, CA, and Jimmy D. Collins and wife, Kathy, of Jackson, Tennessee; sisters, Dixie Jo Vogt and husband, Harold, of Anderson, CA, and Sheryl Thomas, of Bakersfield, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and "his students," many of whom still remain in contact with him. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Adult Literacy Council, 2219 S. Van Buren, Amarillo, TX 79109.
