Obituary for Susan Lee Miller

Susan Lee Miller, 75, of Canyon, passed away on Friday, November 4, 2022. Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Scott Raef as celebrant.

Susan was born on April 26, 1947 in Helena, MT to Fred and Shirley Jawort. She lived in Helena until 1969, when she married her high school sweetheart, William “Bill” Miller, who was beginning a career with the U. S. Army.

Susan and Bill spent the next several years living in Ft. Knox, KY, Tacoma, WA, Ft. Bliss, TX and Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. They moved to Canyon from 1975-1977, and then to Ft. Benning, GA, before returning to Canyon in 1980. Susan began working for CISD Administration in 1981 and stayed there until she retired in 2007. Susan was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Canyon, where she volunteered. She was also active in the Canyon Study Club for many years. She remained in Canyon after her husband’s death because she loved the people and had an amazing network of friends. Susan enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Susan is preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by her son Jason Miller and wife Delene of Beaufort, SC; her daughter Joanna LaBaer and husband Loren of Charlotte, NC; her daughter Lauren Jenkins and husband Warren of St. Louis, MO; her brother, Tex Jawort, of Billings, MT, her sister Lindy Barrett of Helena, Montana; her cousin and dear friend Kathy Stefanick of Pine Grove, PA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins she adored. Susan also had four grandchildren, Will Jenkins, Audrey Jenkins, Max LaBaer, and Spencer LaBaer, who brought her a great deal of joy.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s memory be made to Samaritan’s Purse or The Wounded Warrior Project, both organizations Susan had passion for and supported.
