Obituary for Stephen Glen Turner

Stephen Glen Turner, 55, of Canyon, passed away at home on Saturday, July 29, 2023.

Memorial services will be 1:30 P.M. Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Canyon Country Church, 2600 FM 3331, with Jeff Cates officiating.

Stephen was born on June 4, 1968 in Plainview, Texas to C.L. and Cleta (Willis) Turner. He graduated from Ryder High School, Wichita Falls in 1986. He recently returned to school at West Texas A&M to study Communication with a passion for sign language.

Stephen lived at the Palo Duro Village and was very active there. He helped with many events, in addition to walking lots of dogs there. Stephen's biggest attribute was his heart, and he never met a stranger. He was always joking and lifting people’s spirits. He loved game nights and hanging out with family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, both professionally and on the college level. Stephen would attend as many football, basketball, and volleyball games at WTAMU as he could. He could recall the athletes’ names and stats as if they were part of his family. He worked for years in the restaurant industry as a Chef, a Sous Chef, and waiter in Wichita Falls, TX and Olympia, WA.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, C.L. Turner and Cleta (Willis) Cordray. Survivors include his daughter, Dru Morrison and husband, Aaron of Wichita Falls; brother, Lane Turner and wife, Susie of Canyon; granddaughter, Marley Morrison; nephews, Chance Turner of Oklahoma City and Seth Turner of Canyon. Stephen had many aunts, uncles, and cousins, plus too many friends to count. And his beloved dog, Ferguson.

A special thanks to his “family” at Palo Duro Village. He had become the “little brother” and loved each and every one of you. Thank you for keeping an eye on him.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to The Epilepsy Foundation.
