Shirley White, 91, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Dreamland Cemetery with Zak White officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, November 8, 2021 at Brooks Chapel.
Shirley was born on December 9, 1929 in Lubbock to Harold and Muriel (Stevens) Harrison. When she was nine years old, her mother passed away in a car accident and she then lived with her grandmother, Lessie Stevens, who owned Stevens Flowers. She graduated from Canyon High School and attended W.T.S.U. while working at the flower shop. Shirley married J. Mack White, of Happy, on November 10, 1950 and traveled with him during his service in the Korean War.
They returned to Canyon where Shirley took over the flower shop from her uncle, Piner Stevens. Shirley owned Stevens Flowers for many years and was a longtime florist and businesswoman in Canyon. Upon her retirement, Steven Flowers went to her daughter, Debbie Stevens and granddaughter, Nikki Sams, who continue now with the fifth and sixth generations.
Shirley was a member of First United Methodist Church in Canyon, Beta Sigma Phi, and several floral organizations. Although Shirley’s strong work ethic limited her time with her grandchildren, she loved them dearly.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her grandmother, Lessie Stevens, and her sister, Dorothy. Survivors include her husband of almost 71 years, J. Mack White of Canyon; her son, Jay White and wife, Patti of Lubbock; her daughter, Debbie Stevens and husband, Barry of Canyon; five grandchildren, Zak White and wife, Amber of San Antonio, Ty White and wife, Katy of San Antonio, Sam Wilson and husband, Jerrett of Austin, Nikki Sams and husband, Aaron of Canyon, and Mikal Stevens and wife, Sarah of Amarillo; and seven great-grandchildren, Couper, Annabelle, Madi, Bear, Ellie, Presley, and Harrison.
