Obituary for SARAH ILDA NEWTON BANK

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the First Baptist Church in Canyon with Dr. David L. Lowrie, Jr. officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Sarah was born on April 18, 1915 in Cleveland, Arkansas to Charles and Hannah Newton. She and her family worked together farming, raising cotton and also playing with much joy at the end of the day. "Curley" as everyone called her because of her beautiful curley hair, traveled with her parents and nine brothers and sisters in a covered wagon from Arkansas to Texas. She professed it was a very happy time in her life. She met her husband, D.C. Banks in Gainesville, Texas. They married and moved to a dry land farm in Deaf Smith County. Sarah was very creative in the kitchen preparing meals for as many as 10 to 20 hired workers plus her own family. She was extremely organized because the nearest grocery store was 25 miles away. Sarah drove grain trucks, combines, tractors and helped her husband daily with the many tasks on the farm. She continued her love for cooking by serving wonderful meals and serving delicious desserts to all her friends and family. She especially loved and cherished every minute with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Curley was always involved with her children"s activities. She never missed a basketball game or a dance recital. She supported her children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Edwin James "Yack" Banks, one daughter-in-law, Diane Banks, and six siblings, Omar, Omah, Euless, Ira, and Dee Newton, and Marvel Newton Kirk. The family would like to send a special thank you to her care giver and friend, Carol Wiseman, and also to the staff of Hospice of the Southwest.
