Obituary for RUTH ANN BRILLHART

Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, February 2, 2009 at Ochiltree Cemetery in Perryton, Texas. Memorial Services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Monday at the First United Methodist Church of Canyon with Rev. John McClean officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 1, 2009 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Ruth Ann Shearer Brillhart was born on June 28, 1920 in Perryton, Texas to Otis C. and Bessie Daniel Shearer. She graduated from Perryton High School in 1938 and moved to Canyon in 1957 to complete her education. She received her Bachelor"s degree in 1959 and then her Master of Education in 1963 from West Texas State College. She taught third grade in Amarillo ISD for 25 years, retiring in 1984. She was a member of TSTA, NEA and Canyon Retired Teachers. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Canyon where she was active in the choir, United Methodist Women, Crusader"s Sunday School Class, and Juanelva Rose Circle. She was preceded in death by a stillborn daughter in 1940, a son, James Hall Brillhart, Jr., in 1954, and a daughter, Kathy Fuson, in 1999. Survivors include her four children, Bess Sommer and husband, John, of Round Rock, Sam Brillhart and wife, Mary, of Perryton, Shelley Emery and husband, Mike, of Lubbock, Grover C. Brillhart, II and wife, Karen, of Wylie; thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to the First United Methodist Church for the Capital Campaign Fund, 1818 4th Avenue, Canyon, Texas 79015, or a favorite charity.
