Services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 9 at the University Church of Christ with David Lough, minister, and Bob Shepard, elder, officiating. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Amarillo. Ruby Lee Abbott was born January 22, 1932 in Swisher County to Floyd and Ruby Bonds. She graduated from Canyon High School in 1951. Ruby married Joe Abbott in July of 1951 in Canyon, and they were happily married until he preceded her in death in June of 2009. Ruby was an avid sports fan supporting the Canyon Eagles and West Texas A&M University. She was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. Ruby was also a member of the Partners of Palo Duro, the Buffalo Club, and she was a very active member of the Canyon Chamber of Commerce. Ruby was awarded the Canyon Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year, and she also received Sportsmanship of the Year. Ruby was employed in the banking industry over the last 35 years. Throughout those 35 years she received numerous awards at her jobs. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Ruby is survived by her three daughters, Debbie Madewell and husband, Jim, Vickie Gist and husband, John David, and Nickie Wood and husband, Tuffy, all of Canyon; six grandchildren, Carrie Day and husband, Eddie, of Meadow, Ryan Gist and wife, Kara, of Canyon, Misty Henderson and husband, Justin, of Canyon, Jordan Madewell and wife, Leigh, of Lubbock, Jacoby Madewell, of Lubbock, and Seth Wood and wife, Amy, of Canyon; six great grandchildren, Bryanna and Dylan Day, of Meadow, Kelsie Blanks, Haven and Tryan Henderson, and Kaden McPhearson, all of Canyon; three sisters, Thelma Westfall and husband, Jim, of Midland, Billie McDonald, of Clayton, New Mexico, and Peggy Scott and husband, James, of Little Rock, Arkansas; many nieces and nephews; and a multitude of friends that she considered family.
