Obituary for Roy Leon Hatfield

Roy Leon Hatfield, 93, of Dalhart, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at Hall Cemetery in Howe, Texas.

Leon was born on August 20, 1929 in Grayson County, Texas to Lee Roy and Velma (Battle) Hatfield. He was the class Valedictorian graduating from Howe High School. He continued his education at Austin College in Sherman and Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth. He married Bettie Jewel Cavender on October 13, 1945 in Sherman, Texas. They had 77 wonderful years together.

Leon also completed a two-year training program on feed mill management and operation with Quaker Oats.
In 1948, Leon began working for Quaker Oats at their animal feed plant in Sherman, Texas. He started on the ground floor and worked his way up to plant manager. He was moved to manage the cereal plant in St. Joseph, Missouri and then finally to the Continental Grain animal feed plant in Ft. Worth. After retiring from Continental Grain, he worked for Gifford Electric for several years.

Leon served as a Deacon at the Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman. He was a member of the Evening Lions Club and Kiwanis International. He was also a member and former director of the Ft. Worth Grain Exchange and a director of the Texas Grain and Feed Association.

Leon was a great Dad and grandfather and provider for his family. He was very detail oriented and always had everything planned.

Leon and Bettieā€™s greatest joy was spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Murry Hatfield; his brother; and his three sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Bettie Jewel Hatfield of Dalhart; son, Jerry Hatfield and wife, Terri of Hartley; three grandchildren, Kim Hofferichter and husband, Darin, Cody Hatfield and wife, Jamie, and Amy Dobbs; six great-grandchildren, Peyton and Dylan Hofferichter, Mason and Laila Hatfield, Madison and Cooper Dobbs; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any memorials be made to your favorite charity.
