Obituary for Roy Gwyn

Roy Gwyn, 83, of Wildorado, passed away Monday, March 5, 2018.  Graveside services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Palo Duro Cemetery with Bill Gruhlkey and Roger Morris, friends of the family, officiating. Roy Gwyn was born on October 11, 1934 in Hereford to Homer and Zella Boydston Gwyn.  He lived his entire life in Wildorado and graduated from Vega High School in 1952.  Roy married Marieta Sanders on October 15, 1955 in Amarillo.  He farmed and ranched in Wildorado and served on the board of directors for Palo Duro Soil and Water Conservation District #147 in Randall County for 35 years.  Roy enjoyed fishing, camping, water and snow skiing, and loved to travel.  He also made saddles, was a photographer, and had his real estate license.  He loved restoring and collecting chuck wagons and enjoyed chuck wagon cooking.  He also collected a variety of barbed wire.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, LaZelle Fowler. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Marieta Gwyn, of the home; two daughters, Dywan Lane and husband, Colin of Wildorado and Mareechia Pennington and husband, Shad of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Trista Pennington and Shon Pennington; one brother, Jimmie Gwyn; and one sister, Lawana Milhoan. The family suggests memorials be to the Palo Duro Cemetery Fund, PO Box 82, Wildorado, Texas 79098.
