Rosey was born in El Paso, TX to Gene and Lee Welch on February 16, 1942. She grew up in Clarendon, TX where she graduated from Clarendon High School in 1960. While still residing in Clarendon after high school, she met and married Art Sommerfeld on August 20, 1965. Together, they had two daughters, Debbie, and Donna.

Faith was very important to Rosey and wherever she was, she was a faithful member of her congregation most often through teaching Sunday School, which she did for various age groups for 65 years. She was also an educator for the public school system for 29 years. She began her journey in education in 1982 at Rex Reeves Elementary as a teacher’s aide. In 1991, she returned to college at West Texas A&M University and completed her degree to become an elementary school teacher in 1996. She finished her career in education by being an interventionist at Reeves Hinger, retiring in 2011.

In her spare time, Rosey enjoyed sewing, taking long walks, reading, watching football, and studying the word of God.

She is survived by her daughters Debbie Sommerfeld of Amarillo, TX and Donna Sommerfeld of Canyon, TX; her sister Shirley Burton of Spearman, TX; several nieces, her nephew, and several great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Art Sommerfeld, her parents, Gene and Lee Welch, brothers Lester Welch and Gerald Welch, two sisters, Jeannie Formway and Linda Welch, and in-laws Danny and Leonora Willmann.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made either to the American Heart Association, or The National Kidney Foundation.
