Obituary for Ronnie Alan McDonald

Ronnie Alan McDonald, 62, of Happy, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Happy Cemetery with Tom Stribling, officiating. Please join the family for a meal and visitation immediately following the service at the new Methodist Church location.

Ronnie was born October 25, 1959 in Canyon, Texas to Robert W. and Linda Ratjen McDonald. He was a Happy Cowboy at Happy High School and then attended South Plains Junior College on a Rodeo Scholarship.

He married Kathy Ballard on June 7, 1985 in Dimmitt, Texas.

Ronnie worked in farming and ranching. He loved working with all the animals and the birth of a newborn calf brought him joy.

He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 9.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Happy, where he proudly served on multiple committees. He was especially dedicated to the building committee of the new church.

Ronnie was also a member of the Happy Rodeo Association and served as a board member for the Swisher County Appraisal District. He coached his son, Matthew’s, little league baseball and basketball teams and was active in Cub Scouts.

He loved family trips to the mountains to do some trout fishing and has always had a love for swimming.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert McDonald and his father-in-law, Monty Joe Ballard.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Kathy; son, Matthew McDonald and girlfriend, Jasmine Smith; mother, Linda McDonald; brother, David McDonald and wife, Cindy of McLean, TX; niece, Victoria Newton and fiancé, Kolton Brock of Canyon, TX; sister-in-law, Kay Ballard Smith and husband, Larry of Lubbock; and mother-in-law, Maxine Ballard of Lubbock.
