Obituary for Ronald (Ronnie) Dale Gordon

Ronald (Ronnie) Dale Gordon age 84, passed peacefully on the morning of February 25th.

Memorial services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Living Water Christian Fellowship with Bryan Laramore, officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 3 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel.

Ronald Dale Gordon was born November 22, 1938 in Wetumka, Oklahoma, the 5th of 11 children born to Baxter (BR) and Thelma Gordon. He grew up in Holdenville, Oklahoma and graduated from Holdenville High School with the class of 1957. He served 7 ½ years in the National Guard obtaining a rank of 2nd Lt. He spent active-duty time at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas, Ft Hood, Texas, and Ft Benning, Georgia. He received his BS in Education from East Central State College in 1962. Upon graduation, he married Johnnie Barnes on May 27th, 1962. They moved to Barstow, California shortly after where Ronnie took his first teaching position in Barstow. Ronnie and Johnnie welcomed Kelly Joan and Leslie Ann while in Barstow, before moving to Canyon, Texas in 1965 where Ronnie obtained his Master of Education from West Texas State in 1967. They welcomed James Scot in 1968 and Ronnie spent the next 29 years teaching 6th and 7th grade Math at Oscar Hinger and Canyon Junior High, retiring from CISD in 1994 after the passing of his beloved Johnnie in 1992.

In 1994 Ronnie met and married Andrea Jones. Ronnie and Andi were married 25 years until Andi’s passing in July 2019. Ronnie spent his retirement years enjoying his farm and cattle along with traveling, playing golf and enjoying his spades/domino group. Ronnie was a member of the Canyon Kiwanis Club and FBC Joyful Servants Sunday School Class.

Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Tammy and Joyce Dempsey, brother, B.R. Gordon, and many special in-laws, nephews, and friends.

Ronnie is survived by his children, Kelly Hjerpe (Paul), Leslie Gordon (Chris) and Scot Gordon (Nissa); stepson, Aubrey Jones (Xan); and grandchildren, Megan Wilson (Josh), Hunter Dotson (Alicia), Taylor Dotson, Kaylee Hjerpe, Nena Gordon, Lela Gordon and Rikki. He is also survived by his brothers, Willard Gordon (Faye), John Gordon (Rilda), Harold Gordon (Jennie); sisters, Barbara Cummins, Donna Klick, Peggy Wilmeth and Karen Brock; sisters in law, Wanda Mayes and Sue Guthrie, many nieces and nephews and 3 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Forero, Gayla Blades and the wonderful staff at Texas Oncology for their compassion and care for the past 4 years, as well as CenterWell Home Health, Gentiva Hospice and Abundantly Blessed.
