Rolla H. Shaller, 83, of Amarillo, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2021. A private service will be held followed by burial at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.
Rolla Hutchinson Shaller, Jr. was born on November 27, 1937 in Canadian, Texas to Rolla H. and Mildred Shaller. He graduated from Canadian High School in 1957. After active-duty service in the U.S. Army, he received his bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University in Biology. He married Sidney Oldham on July 28, 1973 in Canyon, Texas.
Rolla was employed for several years by the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum in the exhibits and archeology departments. He was a 50+ year member of the Texas Archeological Society and received their highest award, Fellow in 2018 as well as several other excellence awards. He was a founding member of the Panhandle Archeological Society. Rolla was a Texas Historical Commission Archeological Steward for the Panhandle region and served on the Randall County Historical Commission.
Rolla is survived by his wife, Sidney; daughter, Mandy Richardson and husband, Justin; grandson, Jack of Canyon; brother, John Shaller of Amarillo; and many cousins.
The family would like to thank BSA Hospice of the Southwest and Visiting Angels for their care and compassion this past week.
