Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. John McClean, pastor of First United Methodist Church of Canyon, officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday at Dreamland Cemetery. The family receive friends on Friday, December 18, 2009 at Brooks Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Bobbie was born on July 2, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to Robert and Alyce Grigsby. She lived on a farm near Happy until the family moved to Canyon when she was in fifth grade. She graduated from Canyon High School and then attended Texas Tech and Texas Western at El Paso. She married her high school sweetheart, Joe Dale White, on August 29, 1955. Bobbie worked 25 years in different positions including Operations Manager at The Opportunity Plan, Inc. in Canyon, retiring in 2008. An accomplished tole painter, many of Bobbie"s pictures hung in the old Canyon Hospital for many years. She later became an expert quilt maker, donating many of them. Many friends and teachers of her grandsons have been the lucky recipients of the quilts, Christmas ornaments and wall hangings she created over the years. Bobbie and Joe went on many adventures together, from snorkeling in Australia, to touring Canada"s Northwest Territory. They spent a wonderful year sailing out of Newport, California on their boat "Ler." They also shared the memorable achievement of sailing from California through the Panama Canal to Honduras. A licensed ham radio operator with the call signal N5BCO, she used her advanced license to help locals maintain contact with families in the USA when she and Joe lived in Roatan Honduras. Bobbie was also a certified SCUBA diver and made many exciting dives in the Pacific, Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. Bobbie grew up in the First Baptist Church in Canyon. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Honorary pallbearers will be Ann and Norris Root, Cathy Wright, Jerry Martin, Pat Whitaker, and Pam Nease. Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Joe Dale White; son, James Lee White and wife, Connie, of Canyon; daughter Jo Ann Withers and husband, Michael, of Arlington and their twin sons, Ian and Patrick; step granddaughter, Billie Jean Becker and husband, Michael and their four daughters; step grandson, Matt Sandoval and his wife, Kat; sister, Beth Woolsey; close cousin, Wayne White and his wife, Guyla; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.
