Robert Lewis Dickey, lovingly known as ‘Big Dad’ and ‘PaPa’, 84, of Weatherford, Texas passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family. Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, February 16, 2024 at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, TX with Keith Warren, Executive Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery at 3:30 P.M. Viewing will be on Thursday, February 15 from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Home and on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until service time at North Side Baptist Church.

Robert was born on October 21, 1939 in Big Spring, Texas to Jessie Everett ‘Doc’ and Hazel Frances (Barber) Dickey. One of four sons, he was raised in O’Donnell and when his dad became ill, Robert left school to help his mother support the family.

Robert later farmed in the Panhandle area until 1968 when he moved his family to Weatherford and began Dickey Construction. For the next 50+ years, he was known in the Weatherford area for his new construction and remodeling expertise, passing his work ethic and knowledge on to his son, Paul, and grandson, Brandon.

In his children’s growing up years, Robert loved vacations in Colorado, riding motorcycles on the trails around Cuchara and making special memories for his family for many years.

In 1984, Robert married Vonda Glenn and gained a host of family that also loved him dearly. Robert and Vonda enjoyed forty years together and treasured every moment, including the many camping and four-wheeling trips to Red River, NM.

Through the years, Robert also enjoyed his many memorable hunting trips, most with Paul, Spring Break fishing trips to Lake Fork with his family, weekends at First Monday with Vonda enjoying the company of his many friends there, and playing cards or dominoes with anyone who was up to the challenge (he was seldom defeated).

Robert loved having fun and many who knew him experienced and could tell stories about his many jokes and pranks. To know Robert was to love him, and he will be forever remembered and cherished for his mischievous and playful spirit that endeared so many people to him.

Two years ago, Robert suffered a debilitating stroke and has endured a long hard journey ever since. Vonda’s love for him was evident as she was by his side every step of the way. Robert loved each of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly. He loved Vonda with all his heart, and he loved her girls and their families as his own.

Robert is preceded in death by his father, his mother, stepfather, Vernon Cook, two brothers, Jerry and Jerald Dickey, and his two devoted canine companions, Leroy and Dolly.

Survivors include his wife, Vonda Dickey; four children, Dianna and Danny Brown, Caroline and Roland Brooks, Paul Dickey, and Penny and Frank Ford; three stepdaughters, Kathy and Eric Melton, Paula and Kelvin Melton, and Sharon and James Hall; 6 grandchildren; 7 step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren; 3 step great, great grandchildren; brother Royce and Freda Dickey; two sisters-in-law, Mary Dickey and Pam Dickey; numerous nieces and nephews; and his much loved dog, Rosie.

The family would like to thank Jennifer with Interim Hospice for her excellent care.
