Obituary for ROBERT PATTON JARRETT

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 30 at Dreamland Cemetery. Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 30 at the First Presbyterian Church in Canyon with Rev. Davis Price, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Lubbock, and The Rev. Dr. Don McDonald, pastor, officiating. Robert Patton "Pat" Jarrett was born October 29, 1949 in Canyon, Texas to Dr. Bob and Mamie King Jarrett, Jr. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Canyon, serving as an elder and deacon. As a youth, he was very involved with Boy Scouts, ultimately being awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Pat served as a volunteer fireman on the Canyon Fire Department for over 25 years and also was a paramedic for most of that time. He held a pyrotechnic license and was in charge of the Canyon community fireworks display each 4th of July. Longtime Canyon residents may remember one unintentionally memorable display one summer in the mid 1980s. Pat was a man who wore many hats. While attending the University of Texas at Arlington, he worked as a cameraman, and eventually as lighting director, at WFAA in Dallas. Pat was involved with the "TEXAS" production from its inception, returning to Canyon from college each summer to work on the sound and light crew. Upon returning to Canyon after college, he continued to work with the "TEXAS" production as light and sound director and eventually as facilities manager. In 1986, Pat left the "TEXAS" production to pursue his private business installing commercial and residential burglar and fire alarm systems. In 2007, Pat became employed by Happy State Bank and worked there until his death. In 1976, he married his high school sweetheart, who had fallen in love with him at first sight. He is remembered by his family and friends as a generous man who would drop everything to lend a helping hand. Pat had a firm conviction that one could never own too many tools, which he used just as often to help others as to complete his own never-ending list of home improvement projects. Besides his love of all things electronic, Pat loved singing in the Amarillo Civic Chorus and running a spotlight for any traveling Broadway show passing through the area. His passion for theatrical productions was an ongoing joke in the family ? "There goes Pat, running off to join the circus again." He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Beth Jarrett, of the home; two daughters, Rebecca Hooper and husband, Jim of Amarillo, and Nancy Jarrett, of Coppell; a granddaughter, Sophie; three sisters, Ann Rheinlander and husband, Tom, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Jane Buskirk and husband, Mike, of Evanston, Wyoming, and Beth Ivy and husband, Jim, of Fort Stockton; and many dear friends and extended family members. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 98, Canyon, TX 79015 or to the Amarillo Civic Chorus.
