Obituary for Richard Lloyd Bowe

Richard Lloyd Bowe, devoted husband, loving father, respected leader in the field of homebuilding, football legend and an avid outdoorsman, peacefully passed away at home in Houston on August 27th, 2023 at the age of 81. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and enduring memories that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on October 11, 1941, in Happy, Texas, Richard was the son of Harold and Lola Bowe. He spent his formative years in the close-knit community of Happy, nurturing his passion for football and the outdoors. Richard's academic journey led him to Rice University, where he excelled both on the field and in the classroom.

During his time at Rice University, Richard achieved greatness lettering 3 years as an offensive and defensive tackle showcasing his extraordinary talent on the football field. His outstanding performance on the football field led to being drafted by the Houston Oilers in 1964.

Richard was not only a dedicated family man but also a visionary in the world of real estate development. His career as an apartment developer showcased his innovative spirit and commitment to creating inviting communities for families. He was a respected figure in the industry, serving as the President of the Greater Houston Builders Association (GHBA), where he made significant contributions to the growth and development of the Houston community.

Known for his sharp wit and quick sense of humor, Richard's words could light up a room, and his kindness endeared him to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He approached life with a spirit of optimism, hard work and encouraged others to do the same.

One of Richard's greatest joys was exploring the natural beauty of his beloved Happy Falls Ranch. Surrounded by nature, he found serenity, adventure, and an opportunity to connect with the land he held dear. In addition to his ranch, Richard was also a passionate boating enthusiast, indulging in his love for water sports on the lake. Whether it was water skiing, or simply cruising, he found solace and adventure on the open water.

In addition to his many passions, Richard was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church, where he found spiritual solace, fellowship, and the opportunity to nurture his faith.

Richard is survived by his beloved spouse, Linda Halla Bowe, his two sons, Lance Bowe and Rex Bowe and his wife Christi, and daughter Melissa Cavazos, her husband Lee, step- daughters Julie Holmes, her husband Jim, Christen Bagley, her husband Brian, Mindy Jaynes and step-son Clinton Griggs, and a host of adoring grandchildren, including Harrison Bowe, Tucker Galvan, Spencer Bowe, Kendall Bowe, Savannah Cavazos, Lindsey Holmes, Sydney Holmes, Brittany Holmes, and Colton Griggs. He is also survived by his brother, Forrest Bowe, and sister, Eva Ann Pritchard.

Two services to celebrate Richard Lloyd Bowe's life will be held, first on Friday, September 1, 2023, 11:00 am at Second Baptist Church of Houston (Woodway) and on Saturday, September 2, 2023, 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Happy, Texas with Gene Jones officiating, followed by a graveside service at the Happy Cemetery. All who wish to honor his memory are welcome to attend.

Richard Lloyd Bowe's impact on the lives of those he touched, as well as his passion for the outdoors, will be remembered with gratitude and fondness. May he rest in eternal peace.
