Richard Fernandez, 45, of Lubbock, passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Brooks Chapel with Travis Evers, pastor of Christ Family Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel. Richard was born on June 2, 1974 in Hereford to Benito and Mary Lou Quiroga Fernandez. He graduated from Hereford High School where he played football and was known as “Father Fernandez.” On March 8, 2018, he married Edna Vela in Amarillo. Richard was a truck driver for over 20 years. He loved what he did. He also loved dancing, especially with his wife. Hauling bulls was one of his favorite things and he was passionate about motorcycles and cars. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Fernandez and a brother, Benny Fernandez. Survivors include his wife, Edna of Lubbock; beloved dog, Cyrus; sister, Tammy Fernandez Rodriguez of Dallas; brother, Johnny Amaya of Canyon; five nephews, Derek, Hector, Benji, Shane and Isaiah; niece, Edyn; great nephew, Christian; three step-children, Chris, Jellisa, and Ben, Jr.; and eleven step-grandchildren.
