Obituary for Richard Lewis Bennett
Richard Lewis Bennett, 78, of Canyon, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Messiah’s House, 6901 Bell St, in Amarillo. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 A.M. at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel in Canyon.
Richard Lewis Bennett was born November 25, 1944 in Great Bend, Kansas to Marion and Ardis (Shepherd) Bennett. He married Beverly Ellis on November 23, 1962 in Burdett, Kansas.
Richard worked in the supermarket business before owning and operating Canyon Motors until his retirement. He and Beverly began working together as flight couriers for Apollo Med Flight after he retired.
Richard was a faithful member of Messiah’s House and Arena Church. Putting God first was very important to him.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brice Bennett Hedgpeth; two granddaughters, Dominque and Danielle Hedgpeth; son-in-law, Charlie Hixson; sister, Sue Ann Bertram; his parents, Marion and Ardis Bennett; and his special grandfather, Louis Shepherd.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Beverly Bennett; daughter, Misty Hixson of Canyon; sons, Marc Bennett and wife, DeeDee of Canyon, Milton Carrasco and wife, Chris of Corrales, New Mexico; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; sister, Joanne Lesher of Pratt, Kansas; his beloved dog, Saydee; and numerous other extended family members.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hope Choice Pregnancy Center, 6709 Woodward, Amarillo, TX 79106. Please indicate that the memorial is in honor of Richard Bennett.
