Obituary for Rev. William Johnson, Jr.

Rev. William Johnson, Jr., 97, of Canyon, passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 9, 2021 at the First Baptist Church with Randy Johnson, officiating. Burial will follow at Dreamland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 8 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Brooks Chapel.

William was born October 7, 1924 in Frosa, Texas to William and Odessa Steward Johnson, Sr. He married Lily Mae Primous in Groesbeck, Texas on July 16, 1946. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1995.
William was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving during World War II on the USS Windsor.

He held many jobs throughout his career including minister, farmer, Coopers Thriftway, Canyon ISD, West Texas A&M University, and the post office. He did whatever he could to help take care of his family.

He was a retired minister and faithful member of Mt. Sinai.

William loved fishing especially at Medi Park. McDonald’s was his hangout spot where he enjoyed visiting with everyone that came through the door. He also enjoyed walking at the mall. He never met a stranger and was kind to everyone. He loved his family deeply and was proud of each one of them.

He loved to say, “Tell everybody hi and I love em.”

He was also preceded in death by a son, William Gerald Johnson, two daughters, Robena Davis and Sandra Roston, his mother and step-dad, Odessa and Melvin Henderson, five brothers, and one sister.

Survivors include his five sons, James Johnson and friend, Cheryl Turner of Amarillo, Robert Johnson and wife, Denise of Schertz, TX, Johnny Johnson and wife, Dawn of Amarillo, Randy Johnson and special friend, Mariza Rodriguez of Dimmitt, and Michael Johnson of Wichita Falls, TX; three daughters, Norma Brunt and husband, Bill of Fairfield, TX, Merry Byers and husband, Louis of Memphis, TN, and Michelle Johnson of Lancaster, TX; thirty five grandchildren; forty two great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Morrison of Abilene, TX; and a host of other friends and relatives.

The family suggests memorials be made to Mt. Sinai, 302 Knight St., Hereford, TX 79045.
