Obituary for Rev. Georgia Ann King

Rev. Georgia Ann King, 73, of Canadian, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2022. Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, September 2, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church of Canadian with Rev. Mert Cooper officiating. Private inurnment will be in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian.

Georgia was born on February 10, 1949 in Canadian to Raymond and Blossom (Knop) Newell. She received her Master’s in Theatre Degree from Oklahoma State University and her Master of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Georgia pastored in churches in Louisville, KY, Broken Arrow, OK, and Snyder, TX prior to moving back to the Texas Panhandle, at which time she served as Head Pastor for First Presbyterian Church, Borger TX while also a chaplain at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital. She provided pulpit supply throughout the Texas Panhandle in the Palo Duro Presbytery as well. She was an honorably retired member of the Palo Duro Presbytery and a member of the PEO Sisterhood, Chapter I, Canadian TX.

Georgia had a passion for painting, loved traveling, and thoroughly enjoyed visiting with people. She was a longtime, dedicated member of the Canadian Women’s Birthday Club. She adored her faithful canine companion, Blossom.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her sons, Bryan King and wife, April of Edmond, OK and Brent King and wife, Heather of Lubbock; grandchildren, Connor King and wife, Savannah of Shady Shores, TX, Kelton King of Edmond, OK, Kirkland King and Corbin King, both of Lubbock; and her great-granddaughter, Magnolia King of Shady Shores, TX.
