Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 23, 2012 in the family plot at Dreamland Cemetery. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Canyon with Pastor Bobby File, pastor of Evangelical Fellowhship Church of Amarillo, and Dr. Mike Bellah, officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at Brooks Chapel. Renna Beth Bellah Barnard was born January 9, 1922. Mrs. Barnard was the last surviving child of Alfred E. and Renna Craig Bellah, long-time civic leaders, merchants and early settlers in Canyon. Mrs. Barnard"s grandparents, J.M. and Ila Craig, settled on farm land 10 miles south of Canyon in 1900. Her father, Alfred (Dick) and his parents, Robert A. (R.A.) and Lilly Bellah, moved to Canyon in 1918. R.A. Bellah served as mayor of Canyon in the 1930"s. The Bellah"s were involved in farming and ranching in Randall County, along with operating what became known as Bellah Grocery for over 45 years and was located in a building constructed by the family on the south side of the city square now occupied by the Canyon News and The Cake Company. Mrs. Barnard graduated from Canyon High School (1939) and West Texas State College (1946), majoring in Music. She played girls basketball for the Canyon Eagles, supported the Buffaloes and was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority Club. She eloped, to her father"s chagrin, with her high school sweet heart, Robert E.(Barney) Barnard Sr. on February 14, 1942. They spent their lives in Canyon involved in the grocery business and in farming family land. Mrs. Barnard taught private piano lessons for almost 60 years. She was a lover of the arts, involving herself in various music clubs, along with church and civic musical activities. During her life time she also volunteered for a number of organizations, along with serving on various boards, including Dreamland Cemetery and the American Cancer Society. She was an experienced player of bridge, dominoes and other table games. Mrs. Barnard was preceded in death by her brothers, J.C., Bob, and Max Bellah, her sister, Mary Ann Keeling, her husband, Barney (1986), and her eldest son, Robert (Rob) E. Barnard Jr. (2001). Her sons express their deepest appreciation to her daily care-givers, her extended family at Palo Duro Village, the members of her church, Evangelical Fellowship Church in Amarillo, and her adored nieces, nephews and spouses for their loving attention during the past months of their Mother"s illness. A sinner saved by God"s grace, to Him be the glory for a life well-lived, championed with love for Christ, family, friends, music, and her students. She is survived by sons, Kent and wife, Jane, of Dallas, Stan and wife, LaRue of Canyon, daughter in law, Lee Ann, of Flower Mound, four grandchildren, Sarah-Margaret of Dallas, Libby, of Shanghai, China, Kryn Beth McClain and husband, Ruben, of Corpus Christi, and Bryce, of Canyon, and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Logan McClain. She is also survived by her good friend, Mary Troth, first cousins, Betty Craig Howard and Jimmy Craig, several nieces and nephews, many life-long friends and hundreds of piano students instilled with a love for music. Memorials may be given to a charity of choice, her church, or Hidden Falls Ranch, a Christian Youth Camp, P.O. Box 136, Wayside, TX, which she and her husband were closely involved since its founding in the 1960"s.
