Obituary for RAYMOND G. HINDERS

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Canyon, with Rev. Rick Enns and Rev. Bobby McMillan, retired Methodist minister, officiating. Raymond Hinders was born on April 18, 1934 to Louis Ben and Amanette Garvin Hinders on a farm in the Texas Panhandle in Jowell Community. He grew up on the farm with his brothers, Louis and Edward and sister, Laverne. He attended school in Canyon and graduated from West Texas State University. While there, he met his future wife, Sarah Beth Barnhart and married in 1957. They were blessed with their wonderful family of four sons, Gary and wife, Linda, Greg and wife, Diane, Neal and wife, Nancy, Brad and wife, Terrie and eleven grandchildren. He received a masters degree from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Nebraska. He worked as a Dairy Extension Specialist with the University of Missouri and as a nutritionist with Funk Seed Company in Lubbock. He worked as an animal nutritionist with Producer Grain Corporation in Amarillo and in 1981 for Carnation Milling in California; and then began working as an independent dairy nutritionist. He was active in different charities and a member of a variety of different clubs and professional organizations. He was Honorary Chapter Farmer in the Future Farmers of America, honored Distinguished Member Award of ARPAS in October 2001, and received the Department of Agriculture Graduate of Distinction Award of West Texas A&M University in 2006. His faith in God gave great meaning to his life. He was a member of several Methodist churches through the moves and in 1985 joined St. Paul Lutheran in Lodi. He loved his flower and vegetable gardens and loved taking beautiful bouquets of flowers to his friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Laverne. The family suggests memorials be sent to United Methodist Church Committee on Relief (UMCOR) in care of First United Methodist Church, 1818 4th Ave. Canyon, TX 79015; Heifer Project International, P.O.
