Obituary for PEGGY ARLIEEN VAN GORDEN LANGLEY

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 10 at Brooks Chapel with Rev. John Elser, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. A private burial will be held at Chicago Mound Cemetery near Emporia, KS. Mrs. Langley was born May 10, 1930, at Emporia to Helen Demler Van Gorden and Herbert Lyle Van Gorden. She married Carl Albert Langley on March 6, 1954, at Emporia. They were married almost 50 years. He preceded her in death in May 2000. Peggy graduated from Emporia High School in 1948. Before she and her family moved to the Texas Panhandle from Blythe, Calif., in 1967, Mrs. Langley worked many years as a checker at a Safeway grocery store. She was a homemaker after moving to the Panhandle. Peggy described herself as a "beer-drinking Lutheran." She enjoyed traveling, video poker and big holiday celebrations with her large family. She and Carl toured the country in their travel trailer, and they went on cruises. After her husband died, Mrs. Langley lived with her adult daughter, Carlene Langley, who died in May. Peggy lived only about six more months after Carlene died. She is survived by a son, Jeff Langley of Amarillo; two daughters, Dorliss Kourey and husband Nassef Kourey of Cedar Hill, and Shayne Cox and husband Val Cox of Converse; a brother, Mike Van Gorden and wife Ilene Van Gorden of Overland Park, Kan; her friend of 80 years, since grade school, Margaret Freeman and "second family" of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
