Obituary for Owen Simpson Robertson

Owen Simpson Robertson, age 102, passed from this life August 21, 2023 in his home in Amarillo, Texas.
Graveside services will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. at Brooks Chapel.

Owen was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Judith Smith Robertson; his mother, Annie Mae (Owens) Robertson; his father, Hernan Dean Robertson; his grandson, Zachary Robertson; sisters, Verbal Fae Robertson, Mrs. Julia Holland, Mrs. Dee Brock Davis, Mrs. Vannie Long; and brothers, Clyde Robertson, C.H. (Curly) Robertson, Doice Robertson, and Virgil Robertson.

Born on June 18, 1921 in Sayre, Oklahoma. Owen’s family went to San Simone, Arizona to ranch. The family returned to Randall County due to his father’s ailing health to be near relatives.

Owen began working at age eleven in a feed store. Later he worked for farmers in Southeast Randall County. He also worked with his brothers in construction work. He attended school in rural Randall County and in Canyon, Texas. In July of 1942, he volunteered for military duty and was selected to serve in the United States Coast Guard. Owen enjoyed the Coast Guard and was proud of his 3.24 grade in Water Tender School. He was discharged honorably on October 23, 1945. Upon his discharge he returned to Canyon. He worked as a carpenter for many years. In 1957, he went to work at the VA hospital and eventually retired.

After he retired Owen and Judith traveled in the United States often taking their grandchildren and great-grandchildren on trips. The trips were educational as well as fun for everyone who went. No matter where he was Canyon was home.

Owen leaves behind a son, Roger and wife, Christina; grandchildren, Jennifer Robertson, Felicia Robertson, Logan Smith and wife, Emily, Rhiannon Ewing and husband, Jamar; great-grandchildren, Felix Robertson and husband, Alexander Syms, Rebekah Beavers, Xavier, Clarissa, Alexander Folterman, Danae Folterman, and extended family.
