Obituary for OLGA VARS

Graveside services will be at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia, Texas. Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Brooks Chapel in Canyon with Dr. David L. Lowrie, Jr., pastor of the First Baptist Church of Canyon, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, August 29, 2008 at Brooks Chapel. Olga Samantha McGlaun Vars was born July 13, 1911 in Tulia, Texas, the daughter of Swisher County Pioneers, J.W. and Beulah McGlaun. She graduated from high school in 1928 then attended West Texas State Teachers College and Texas Tech College. She completed her education with a degree in Home Economics with Teacher Certification. She married Stanley Vars on June 5, 1932 in Tulia. She and her husband taught in Swisher County community schools at Sunnyslope, Taylor and Kaffir. In 1937 they returned to Tulia to farm until Stanley"s death in 1983. Olga moved to Canyon and the Palo Duro Retirement Village in 1984. She worked as an office assistant there until 2005. She will be remembered for her great love for books and literature by her friends and family She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Monroe McGlaun, and three sisters, Mary Harman, Mable Knowles, and Doris Holly. Survivors include two sons, Don Max Vars and wife Lila of Canyon, Jay Vars and wife Marcy of Kailua Kona, Hawaii. Grandchildren include Mayla Vars Paris and husband Kyle of Amarillo, Texas, Dr. Misty Vars Evans and husband Gary of Scottsdale, Arizona; Craig Vars of Houston, Texas; Ashley Vars Galindo and her husband, Dr. Michael Galindo of Springfield, Missouri; Ryan Vars and wife Katie of Varanasi, India; and Evan Vars and wife Mary of Qingdao, China. Great Grandchildren are Colt, Creed, and Cutter Paris; Brett, Sophie and Sloane Evans; Ethan, Hailee, and Meghan Galindo; Taylor and Logan Vars of Varanasi, India.
