Obituary for OBIE JAC COVINGTON

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 23 at the First Baptist Church in Shamrock with Pastors Mike Martin, Mark Howard and Shane Nease officiating. Burial will precede the service at Shamrock Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church fellowship hall after the service. Obie Jac Adams Covington, 80, of Shamrock, Texas went to her heavenly home on Monday, February 20, 2017. She was born February 29, 1936 in Hall County, Texas. Obie grew up in Borger, Texas and graduated from Borger High School in 1954. She made her home in Shamrock for 53 years and loved the people there. She was an active member of First Baptist Church, serving in various ministries for many years. She was a founder of Pioneer West Museum in Shamrock and served on the board for over 40 years. Obie loved her Lord and people – she enjoyed her flower gardens and working in her yard. She loved and supported her children and grandchildren in their interests and activities and never missed important milestones and life events. Obie loved life and adventure. Even in her seventies she went white water rafting and zip lining. Although small in stature, she was a "make things happen" individual. Shakespeare’s quote, "Though she be but little, she is fierce" fit Obie perfectly. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Bob Covington, brothers Herbie and Paul Adams, and parents, Herbert and Edith Adams. Survivors include her daughters, Dayna Carpenter of Canyon, Tami Hargrove and husband Rick of Spearman and De-An Turner and husband Dale of Amarillo; loving brother Ron Adams and wife Linda of Odessa, TX; special sister-in-laws Dorothy Warren, Donna Scott, Frances Covington, Murrel (Bill) Denbow, Fern Edwards; her treasured grandchildren Ashli (Dustin) Cubitt, Justin (Jessica) Carpenter, Coby (Kelli) Carpenter, Chalen (Melissa) Carpenter, Kade (Ellie) Carpenter, Dayne (Skylee) Hargrove, Brody Hargrove, Gena Hargrove, Dustin Turner, Anthony Peyton and Ashley Peyton; and precious great-grandchildren, Kalen, Skye, Kyson, Adalyn and Charlee; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Citychurch Camp Hope Fund, 205 S. Polk, Amarillo, TX 79101 or Pioneer West Museum, P.O. Box 101, Shamrock, TX 79079.
