Obituary for O. W. PARKER

Services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Clark Williams and Rev. Donna Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery. Mr. Parker was born in Lamoni, Iowa, in 1909 to Bessie and O.W. Parker, Sr. He had two brothers and one sister. After moving to Independence, Missouri he attended public school. He also attended the University of Kansas. He married Irene Beagel at Olathe, Kansas on November 9, 1941. He served during WWII in the Air Force from 1942 until 1945 as an aerial gunner on a B-12 airplane. Mr. Parker and his family moved to Canyon in 1946 and was owner and operator of the Western Auto Store until his retirement. He continued to live in Canyon after his retirement. During his life in Canyon, he was a member of the Rotary Club for twenty-five years, received the Silver Beaver Award in Boy Scouts of America, was a Mason, member of Eastern Star, Khiva Temple, and the American Legion. He served as a commissioner for the City of Canyon, served as a volunteer on the fire department for twenty-one years, was past president of the Chamber of Commerce and was active in Little League Baseball. He attended the First United Methodist Church of Canyon. He was preceded in death by his sister, Camille Moe, his brothers, Monte Parker and Paul Parker, and one granddaughter, Melanie Mickey. Survivors include his wife, Irene, of the home; his daughter, Karen Mickey, and husband, Vernon, of Canyon; his son, Craig Parker, and wife, Cathy, of Dallas; four granddaughters, Shelle Baker, and husband, Keith, of Clanton, AL, Melissa Lawson, and husband, Charles, of Plainview, Lindsay and Lexie Parker, of Dallas; two great granddaughters, Kaitlin and Kristin Lawson; and two nephews, Kempel Wilhelmsen, of Prescott, AZ, and Eugene Wilhelmsen, of Kansas City, MO. The family suggests memorials be to the American Heart Association, 6605 I-40 West, Amarillo, Texas 79106, or your favorite charity.
